Waiting for Coyote's Call. Inspired by the works of Henry David Thoreau, Aldo Leopold, and Annie Dillard, Jerry Wilson’s eco-memoir Waiting for Coyote’s Call covers twenty-five years of trying to live life while leaving as small an environmental footprint as possible.

Shortly after my book Waiting for Coyote’s Call: An Eco-memoir from the Missouri River Bluff was published last year, my editor at South Dakota State Historical Society Press, Martyn Beeny, suggested that I write a weekly blog of happenings on the Missouri River bluff—a kind of addendum to Coyote’s Call.

Instead when you use the caller, it will walk a circle around you and then approach you. You might see a fox too the north, use a caller, and it would approach you from the east or west.

Foxes move VERY slow and they are NEVER in a rush to jog to the location of the call. Coyotes are cautious when they are coming in to a call. They want to see something associated with the sounds they are hearing. If they can't see anything they will generally work their way down wind of the sound source.

If they see something moving, and don't see another predator or threat to their survival they will charge the decoy. Coyote Waits is the tenth crime fiction novel in the Joe Leaphorn / Jim Chee Navajo Tribal Police series by Tony Hillerman published in It was adapted for television by PBS in Chee is slow to go to the aid of another officer, Nez, who radios that he has found the Author: Tony Hillerman.

By using the calls coyotes haven’t heard, or that aren’t commonly used, a new caller will have more success. I often use bird calls like a turkey in distress or woodpecker distress or I use fawn bleats or puppy screams to bring in call-shy dogs.” For newcomers, coyote hunting guru Mark Zepp recommends an electronic caller.
